A Secret to Hiring Quality Employees in 2022 (or in a Candidate Driven Market)

Serving as Human Resource Consultants for a wide range of businesses, Sage Solutions Group finds one of the biggest struggles employers face these days is not being able to find quality employees. Many smaller companies simply cannot compete with the wage wars required to attract strong candidates.

The real trick to this madness is to find ways where you do not have to compete in the first place. This requires a little bit of upfront time and effort, but the benefits can be priceless.

So, you ask, what is this big secret?  INTERNSHIPS

Yes, there are lots of rules and laws associated with these programs, but once you get past this boring stuff, the upside can be amazing. Here is an idea of what an internship can do for you:

  • Puts your company on the map with local schools and their future graduates
  • Develops more word-of-mouth referrals
  • Increases your pipeline of future talent
  • Begins the training process of potential long-term hires
  • Provides helping hands ready and eager to learn
  • Infuses a fresh perspective in your workplace
  • Improves employee engagement
  • Helps to develop your upcoming leadership team
  • Strengthens your DE&I programs

Keep in mind that you do not necessarily have to hire interns from just colleges. For example, high schools and trade schools also provide great opportunities for hiring interns.

At Sage, we believe in the real opportunities created by internship programs for both the employer and the interns alike. This spring we partnered with Northville High School and welcomed two interns interested in learning more about the dynamic field of human resources. Hannah de Meel and Jacob Trezil are nearing the end of their 12-week internship with us and through this experience, they will enter college with a real-life work experience that will help them navigate their career path. And who knows that path could eventually lead them right back to Sage.

If you are interested in developing an internship program at your company but are unsure where to start, please reach out to Sage Solutions Group where we can assist you in the process right from the “idea phase” through to full implementation.
